Sea Turtle Fundraiser
I am so proud of my amazing 3rd graders for taking the initiative to help the sea turtles! I love that they are trying to make a difference. In order to help the sea turtles, our class wants to adopt a sea turtle through the SC Sea Turtle Hospital. Our first fundraiser will be selling sea turtle ornaments. Please help my sweet kids make a difference by purchasing one of these to put on your tree! They are $5 each and will be sold through December 12th.
Arrays Everywhere
Yesterday, we learned about arrays. We took a walk through the school to find arrays and discussed them when we came back to the room. Today, we used arrays to help us solve multiplication problems in math stations. You can extend this at home by looking for arrays when you are out. Ask your child what multiplication sentence the array shows.

Let's Talk About Math!
We are learning to talk to each other about our thinking. The students each solved a subtraction problem on their own. Then, they shared their work with a classmate. It is great to see them learning from each other.

Turtle Tidbits
I am so excited to share our student blog with you. The kids have been using the computer during their literacy station time to share some facts they have learned about sea turtles. I just love seeing them share all that we've learned with everyone.

Turtle Time
Today, we kicked off our PBL by creating the ideal habitat for a sea turtle. The students have been reading all about sea turtles for the past week so they were ready to put their knowledge to the test. After creating their habitats, the students voted on the habitat that they thought would best meet the sea turtles needs. This habitat will be displayed in our immersion center. The kids and I are excited about learning more about sea turtles. Be on the lookout for a new addition to our blog soon. The kids will be creating their own blogs about what they have learned about turtles.

Addition Strategies
This week we will begin focusing on strategies we can use to solve addition problems. Today, the students solved a word problem using a strategy of their choice. Tomorrow, we will begin using the base ten addition strategy to solve addition problems. The link below will show you a few of the methods your child might use at home over the next few weeks to add.

Number Lines for Rounding
This is our final week on rounding. We will have a test later this week. I have included a link to a demonstration of how we have been using a number line to round to the hundreds. I hope this will help you to better understand what your child is doing in the classroom.

A Great Start
Our first week was a great way to start off our year. I loved seeing all of the great things the students shared with their "Me Bags"! We really learned a lot about each other with these and found that many of us had some things in common.
The students also spent some time with their "lollipop buddies" seeing what they had in common.
On Friday, we showed our school spirit by wearing our Oakland shirts/colors.

Rules to Live By
Today was a great first day back. We had lots of fun learning a little about each other. I am excited to get to know each of my kiddos a little better as the year goes on. We spent a lot of time today talking about our classroom rules, the most important of which is to have good character. The students shared what they thought it meant to have good character and we discussed why it is important. Below is a video from kid president sharing his ideas about 20 things we should say more often. I love watching his videos because they are such a great reminder of things that we sometimes forget as adults (with a little much need humor included). It is amazing how insightful our kids can be when we take the time to listen to what they have to say. I'm excited about what my sweet 3rd graders and I are going to learn from each other this year.

Welcome Aboard!
I am excited to welcome a new group of 3rd graders to my classroom! I can't wait to meet all of you and begin our adventure together. I am so blessed to be able to spend my summers making memories with my family. Check out some of the fun times we've had this summer.
I hope your summer has been as fantastic as mine! I can't wait to hear all about the wonderful things you've done this summer with your southern gents and belles. Feel free to share some of the memories you've made with your families this summer.
My boys and I have spent lots of time at the pool, but don't expect me to look too tan because I spent most of that time holding my little one. My oldest son, Austin, has been perfecting his backward dive.
1st boat ride |
I got to see my youngest son, Hayden, experiences some new things for the first time. I was thrilled to get to see him take his first steps this summer. He will be turning one on August 12th.

My husband & I took the boys to visit the beautiful city of Charleston. We loved walking along the Battery and enjoying the beauty of God's creation. There are so many things to see when you visit this historic city.
While we were there, we took a boat ride out to Fort Sumter to learn more about our state's fascinating history. I will definitely be sharing some pictures with you all when we get to our Civil War unit.
